Default 01 4.3 trans/converter behind a GEN III??

Will this thing bolt up and work?? I remember there being some input shaft differences but I really cant remember the specific year or engines they differed on...

The 4.3 has similar characteristics to the old school 350 ci engines like the genI and gen II. So in order to run that trans you would need the same equipment/ adapters that it would take to run a turbo 350 or 400 trans. Such as a different torque converter, flex plate etc. Also note that there will be electrical differences to resolve.

I can understand the different converters, but why would they build a different trans for the 4.3 and the V8 of the same year? What electronics would need to change?

I'm taking the 4L60E out of the 01 GMC 4.3/auto and putting it in my 2000 ext cab since its fres (which currently has a built 80E) other than swapping the tune and conversion stuff back, why wouldn't this work?

Before you call me an idiot, the ext cab's getting put back to stock and the 01 is getting a different setup... 6L/built 60E

just called FLT, the trans will bolt up fine, the input shaft and pump are the differences. No electrical differences either.

Yes, all old school transmissions will bolt up fine bellhousing wise. The reason the 4.3L has a different 4l60 is because the 4.3L is essentially a gen II 350ci with two cylinders deleted. When the GM trucks got the new Gen III v8's in 99, the 4.3L did not change really, it was the same as the 4.3L since the late 80's.

In short, the 4.3L was designed along side the late Gen I and GenII engines, then not really updated when the v8's went to Gen III. any Gen I and Gen II engine transmission will bolt up to a Gen III but there are input shaft and converter differences. Thats why so many F-body guys run old school turbo 350 transmissions with the appropriate converters for the Gen III engine

some years had connector differences and whatnot. It wouldn't be hard to splice in the correct plugs, but just be aware that it could be something that needs to be done
