Default TA Girdle Oil Capacity?

Can anybody confirm somewhere around 6 pints of oil with the 10 bolt girdle. I had 4 and wound up using some of the oil I drained to cap it off. I used the filler in the cover. Should I have set the level with the original plug up front of the diff?

The diff cover hole should be about the same level as the housing fill hole. I use a little over a quart and a half in mine so the 6 pints you stated would be accurate.

I read the TA install directions again. It was a bit confusing but it does state to use the fill plug in the differential nose as the fill level indicator. I'm with BigKid... the cover fill hole and the diff hole is about the same level. Since I used old oil I'm going to drain it and start over. I kind of freaked out, I don't remember it using so much oil when I swapped the gears. 6 pints = 3 qts.

when swapping carriers, i used 6oz of friction additive and 2 quarts of gear oil. That sounds right IMO.

I just installed one last fall and I've always used the factory fill hole and have had no problems I believe Gm recommends staying a lil lower then the fill hole just so you can touch the oil with you're pinky finger is what I do. I cant remember how much oil I put in though.

Just an update... Yes use the stock fill hole to gauge fill level. I feel stupid. I thought the bottle of oil I was putting in were pints. They were quarts. Using the fill hole on the girdle, like I did I put over 5 quart in the damn thing. Using the stock hole right at 2 quarts.

On another note I've made a couple of pulls and I swear the girdle has improved a hard accel vibration I feel.

so it's better? what did you end up paying for the ta girdle? they seem to be pretty much the same price everywhere

It has to strengthen the rear. Any loads to the bearings will be transfered to the girdle. I also did the ARP stud kit. It has definitely helped a full throttle vibration I have had. I am a patient guy. Watched E-Bay for months. Picked this one up used for $100 bucks. Wound up having to hit the local hardware store for metric bolts to bolt it up. Came with standard size.

good deal, and my question about being better was regarding the vibration you were talking about, that's good to hear. been keeping my eyes open for them quite a bit, still haven't fathomed buying new for 170 for the girdle then the 20 for the stud kit.
