Default T56 fluid questions

Seems like I finding all kinds of information on t56 fluid choices. The t56 is out of 05 gto and is stamped Dexron III. Cant get that anymore. You can go to GM and get what I think they sell as Dexron III. I have a GM part number for that.

Most say that Dex/Mer replaces Dexron III, but Im having difficult speed shifting that stuff. The clutch may need to be bleed though.

According to some, dont use the new Dexron VI in the t56 as it may damage that. Valvoline says that their Max Life is superior to Dexron VI. Both are synthetic based where as Dexron III is not.

Some are using synchromesh in the tranny. Some of the aftermarket companies are running Royal Purple version of synchromesh.

Im not sure what is actually ok to use.

What are you using and what have your read.

When I had my T56, I ran either Dexron III or the Redline equivalent.

I found in all my past T56 cars, the fancier the fluid, the harder it was to shift fast...the blocker rings need friction to do their job.

Best luck I had was regular parts store ATF...the only fancy fluid that ever worked out well was Red Line D4.
