What kind of power are you looking at? I've had a T56 for a year or so now and it's been fun, but with more power than stock and the weight of a truck it probably won't last long if you beat on it.

oh i plan to beat the hell out of it. im looking at around 500 flywheel horses and the future holds the possibility of a 150 shot. wife is begging me to put giggle gas on it. not joking about that. if you recommend an 80e what company do you recommend? looking at buying a jakes stage 4 auto shift and a billet converter.

To do a t56 the correct way is a major pain and very high cost. An 80e will be simple and straight forward with great reliability. The cost will be cheaper than a t56 even if you swap a built 80e. Jakes is a great option. Should hold up super well.

For the least amount that you could do the T56 swap, you could do an 80E swap with a shift kit which would hold more power. A good used T56 is $1000+, $500 for a decent clutch, $100 for the cross member, and then the cost of the pedal assembly, shifter, clutch lines, etc.

for an 80e im at 3100 for just the trans not including a stall, crossmember, fluids, and flexplate.
btw how do all the camaro and vette guys get into the 800+ HP range on the t56 if its so weak? not bashing just wondering? it seems to work well for them. hell my buddies GTO puts down 550 to the rear and hes on a stock t56 with an ls7 clutch
