Exclamation Swapping broken tranny for rebuilt one. 4l60e

im swapping my transmission in my truck, its a 2005 gmc 1500 4x4 with a 4l60e. i have literally everything disconnected and the transmission is seperated from the motor by about half an inch, i cant remove the transfer case as the top nut/bolt i unaccessible with a wrecnh or socket. is it possible to remove the torsion bar cross member and drop it as one? and how do you remove the cross member? the transfer case rest about 3 inches onto it. some one please help, i go back up north in 2 days for work and need my truck i dont know whats holding the transmission on, it wobbles back and forth, it seems like the torque converter is holding the transmission on still. i got all 3 bolts out and it spins freely.

On mine, you could get the transfer case out but it was a pain. I don't remember having any trouble pulling bolts, but you had to turn it 90 degrees to drop it out. There was a support cross member you have to remove to get it out also. The output shaft from the transmission to the transfer case is probably whats holding it in still. This was all on an 02, I guess I assume they would be the same . I have some pictures of when I did this but they aren't really helpful. Best of luck to you and the new 4l60.

Stubby 15mm wrench will get your top bolt off. I just did a new t-case in my truck 04 4x4. Pretty easy to do. I didn't use a jack ad just muscled it out of there. make sure and drain the fluids first.
