Suspension setup
#1
In my 99 ECSB I am looking to do the suspension to help with the wheel hop and to make it a better rider all around as well as help a little with 60 foot times. Currently I am looking at doing coil overs in the front, the ones that Atomic sells, with caltracs and a rear sway bar in the back. Is there anything else I should look at and try to do? I’m not real knowledgeable on suspensions. I do know about four links and that you have to weld them in or fab them?
Any help would be much appreciated!

Ah okay, the only reason I mentioned the coil overs/rear sway bar was to improve ride quality on the street as well. This truck will most likely just be a stoplight to stoplight racer and may see the track only a handful of times

Is the rear dropped at all? If so, how?
If you are wanting to improve ride and not hitting the track on sticky tires, a traction bar may not be your best bet. Any leaf spring traction bar when preloaded for proper function will also reduce travel and add spring rate making the ride harsher. A rear sway bar may help in some situations with wheel hop if the if there is a differential motion of the hop. To accomplish the better ride and remedy wheel hop on the street, I would start with a shock relocation (especially if lowered) with a quality shock along with ensuring the pinion angle is correctly set.

Thank you for your comments, yes it is lowered 2” with the drop shackles. I have seen atomic’s shock relocation kit and it seems good. Is the relocation of the shocks worth it since the current ones are less efficient based on their angle? I think that is how I understand it based off reading.
Although I would like to improve ride quality I have zero traction and may be willing to sacrifice for some traction bars.

Correct. The stock shock angle is already laid over at an excessive angle. Lowering the rear exacerbates the issue. The effectiveness of the shock relocation kit is to put the shocks at a better working angle.

Okay that’s what I thought. My truck has a decent ride now, kinda just rides like a truck with my 10 year old definitely blown rear shocks lol
I have heard of 4-link and wishbone but I don’t think I’m low enough or want to be low enough for wishbone and 4-link just looks like a PITA to do. That about is the extent of my knowledge on rear suspensions
For the front I literally just know about coil overs, most everyone it seems absolutely loves them so I was definitely looking at going down that route at some point.

I did a rear sway bar from a 04 tahoe plus I got the spring clamps from autozone and clamped the front of the overload spring to the other springs....took all the drama out of the back end and no more wheel hop plus it rides pretty decent now.
