I seem to get some noises from the front end and it feels like a loose front end through my steering wheel. I have McGaughys 2" spindles and 1" springs, are either of them the culprits? I hate driving my beautiful truck ever since these noises started....help

 

Could it be the intermediate steering shaft? Pretty common issue with these trucks...feels like a knocking right in the steering wheel and shaft.

 

its gotta be ur steering shaft. there is a tsb on it as well. almost all silverados have this problem.. check with ur dealer for a fix. i was just like u, brand new truck but didnt want to drive it cause it was pissing me off clunking around all the time. Got it fixed by dealer, OMG what a difference! im back to loving the truck probably more then when i drove it off of the dealers lott.

 

You have to make sure that they replace the shaft instead of just tightening it. I work at GM and we do dozens of them a month. Sometimes the tech will just torque the nut back to spec. Make sure they replace the shaft the first time!!!

 

My truck does the same thing. Dealer already fixed it once, but now I'm out of waranty. Is this something I can fix myself? What needs to be done?

Plus when they replaced mine, they had to replace the upper shaft due to excessive wear, and this was with only like 20,000 miles on it.

I did this procedure to my truck about 2 years ago and it's been good so far. I've heard some say it comes back, but it only takes maybe 20 minutes to do, and the grease kit is about $12. So even if you have to do it once a year, personally I can take 20 minutes, $12, and 3 beers to do it...

 

Just for the record, my truck is an 04 and started popping at 9k miles.

 

Yea, it doesn't take long to start...mine did it within the first year or so also. From what I've heard, the same thing happens from 99-04...haven't heard of any 05's doing it yet....(yet)
