Staggered Setup on AWD Truck
#1
IS it possible to have a staggered setup on an AWD truck?
I know its not good to run a larger diameter wheel out back, like i see some people doing nowadays, but what about running same diameter wheels but with a wider wheel out back?
Maybe not drastically wider, but maybe a couple inches wider wheel out back.
I understand how these transfer cases work, 40/60 split, and when a specific wheel needs more power itll transfer it, which is why i ask. Given the wider wheels might need a little more up and go, so would this damage the TC system?

If the rolling diameter of the tires are the same it should be just fine.
This is just a random tire size here but you get the idea. Like if you had a 275/50-20 up front and then ran a 295/45/20 out back. If the tire diameter of both tires was within like 1-2% of each other you would be just fine.

Ive been wanting to jump on some billets for the longest but i never quite knew how serious of an issue i might have with the wider wheels out back.
I thought about custom ordering some same width wheels with different offset to add more lip in the back but its just too expensive and too much of a hassle.
I found some 20x10 and 20x12 billets that i really liked so i was trying to see what my options were.
All i see now is having to shorten my rear end.

I did it with a manual shift 4x4 (chain - 50/50 split) and it worked fine. Had 275s up front and 315s on widended factory wheels out back. Make sure the diameter of whatever size you get is the same, and by that I mean actually measure the rolling diameter of the tire, dont just go by stamped tire size.
Probably the best pic I have of it, click for fullsize
