if it's a toss up between the spool or a locker, weld up your spider gears (not really, just the saying) That way you'll know if you like it wither way.
If not, then get an Eaton, or a Detroit. The Detroit is like a tank, they're hard to break. Look them up, they've got less moving parts to break.

how can i see whether or not its G80? it grabs rarely. after 30 passes @ the track if only had it do two 2 wheel burnouts. if only done a two wheel burnout a total of 4 times.
would changing the diff fluid help with locking. i have been reading that with GTO's they start doing the 1 tire fire **** and they just change the fluid and it fixes it. we did it for my buddies GTO and it worked.

A spool will work ok on the street, will eat up tires faster and wet traction can be a problem. I personally wouldn't use a spool in a DD, if you really want positive traction no matter what the go ahead and get a locker.
I think your best option would be to get a trutrac limited slip. One rarely needs the full locking capabilities of a locker on the street. A trutrac should get you hooked up good on the track 99% of the time. I have a locker in my off-road truck so if I am climbing up some rocks and end up with one tire hanging in the air it juts keeps on climbing.
