Default Speedometer Gone Haywire

My speedometer has gone haywire. When I start my 2005 2wd Silverado 1500, the speedometer reads about 25 mph with the trans in park. When I put the truck in gear and increase the speed, the speedometer spools up.......at about 70 mph (real speed) the dial reads well over 100 mph. Nothing else is out of whack.....all other instuments are reading the same as before the speedometer issue. Odometer is okay as well. Any suggestions? Maybe the speed sensor in the tranny tailshaft.....?

Thanks.

Your stepper motor went bad. Its about as common as needing an oil change after 3000 miles. Everyone of the 03-05's has done or will do it at some point. If you are under 70,000 miles just go by the dealer and tell them the cluster isn't reading right, they will know about it, get the part number mileage and hours off it with the Tech 2 and you'll be on your way. They will call you back in within a few days more then likely and you'll wait about 30 minutes to an hour and have a new cluster. If you are past 70,000 then search stepper motor on ebay and you can get all 6 motors for 40 bucks shipped. It takes some time, a steady hand and some soldering equipment but its better then the 350-400 bucks it costs from a dealer for the cluster if you have to buy it.

its your gauge cluster...the stepper motors on the 03-06 trucks have known to fail...easiest way to fix it is to get a new cluster...
