Default Something Electrical or Clutches?

For starters i am totally green to tranny's but i had a friend call me tonight and ask what i thought..
The truck is an 04 with 130k miles and recently it has started acting up and when u pull it down into to Drive the truck acts as if it wants to take off in 2nd gear and if u pull it all the way down to first it will take off but then u have to shift manually and bump it up.. it only does it every once in awhile not daily..if you are driving in in Drive and stomp it, it does not down shift
what is a possability? like i said i am totally green to transmission the more i learn the better
any help is welcomed and thanks in advance

Have you scanned the vehicle for codes? I would start there and get back to us.
