Some eaton questions
#1
Getting ready to install the eaton. It came with 2 bearings, but i've heard that you needed two of each kind, anybody know bout that? Also, wondering where everybody got their selective shim packs and how much they were. And i assume you can get the gear oil and additive at auto zone or advanced or someplace like that. I don't think there's anything else i need. bearings, shims, oil....can anybody think of anything else? Also, for the ppl who had them installed, what were you charged, gotta make sure i ain't gonna get ripped. Thanx a lot.

You are probably thinking of 2 bearings and 2 races for a total of 4 parts. That's all you need as far as bearings. For shims, you may get lucky reusing the stock spacers and getting a good pattern. If not, you will need some thin shims to adjust the left/right position of the Eaton. Google for adjustable shims as there are some available for $45 that are stackable and easier to use than the standard shims. I ordered a master kit when I did mine due to the fact that I was changing the ring & pinion at the same time. Oil is available at any AutoZone,etc...make sure you use dino oil not synthetic. Also don't forget the 4 oz bottle of additive that the GM dealership sells - "Limited Slip Friction Additive" or something to that effect.

I got all my stuff for aroung $420.00 shipped from some place in California.
Think it used to be randy's ring and pinion??? I can't remember though, i'll try and find the receipt and report back.
Oh ya, make sure you get the shim kit too, you may or may not need it.

It cost me 175 for the eaton install and I supplied all the ****(eaton, rebuild kit). For gears and the install it was going to be like 300 if I supplied all the stuff too. Make sure if you do gears use OEM GM gears they are strong and quiet unlike alot of the other aftermarket companies gears.
