Default so who likes the new Auto 6speed trannys?

so who likes these new 6speed trannys on the new trucks???? so far personally, i dont like them..... dont get me wrong they seem to have a whole lot more low end but just cruising it seems that they always want to stay rev up high until you come to a cruise mode...... can this be adjusted in the tune?? it just seems that the right pedal is too sensitive and wants to down shift real quick.....

might be a thing with some of the 5.3L. my 2010 6.2L 3.73 truck runs decent grade hills in 6th gear at 79-80mph without downshifting. Maybe a 5.3L with 3.42 would have to down shift though.

I just pulled off a 260 mile trip in 3 and a half hours, from southern california to parker arizona and had cruise set at 79-80mph most of the way. Averaged 17.7mpg. Not bad for only 2000 miles on the truck.

My only complaint with the 6 speed is they should have been putting the 6L90 in the max tow package, not the 6l80.

After driving my dads 2010 silverado with 5.3/6spd/3.42 combo for a couple weeks I have grown to like the new 6spd. when I first drove it I disliked it, but it definetly grows on you. It does like to jump from 6th to 5th on inclines, but with the close ratios its less noticeable than the 4spd jumping to 3rd. I did a 240 mile trip in roughly 3hrs 15min. so I wasn't being kind to it and still averaged 18mpg. Wish I could swap out my 4L60 for the 6L80.

This is the reason i went with the NHT 6.2L and 3.73s.
Nearly the same mileage. The 5.3L/3.42 drops gear to hold the speed, while the 6.2L/3.73 holds the gear at a lower RPM. Highway trips are near the same MPG except the 6.2L has more power to play with.

i guess the extra power makes a big difference, we sold the wifes altima and got her a new Chev Traverse SUV, its a v6 with the 6speed, dont get me wrong if im not looking at the RPM tach, i wont notice how much it downshifts a gear, its that quite and smooth, i guess i need to stay focused on the road and not the tach! lol.. i am surprised at the gas mileage, we went to dallas 2 weeks ago and got 21.5mpg crusing at 75mph... suppose to be a 5k lb pig......

but i do notice that around town, in stop and go traffic the needle usually hangs around 2.5-3krpm while going from a dead stop unless you are really being careful on the pedal it will go to 2krpm... thats about what my truck does with a 4k conveter!

most likely the weight vs the v6 in the car.. One tends to step on the pedal more on the smaller engine vehicles to get them moving how one is used to seeing in a normal drive on a vehicle with a v8 or atleast im like that on my v6.lol.and this is just normal driving nothing crazy.. thats my theory on why so high rpm's lol..

anyways its probably just something that u get used too, and i bet the ride is nice in those things.

So far they seem to be a fairly capable transmission. Only thing I've done to them was the range position switch on two different ones. My biggest complaint is how low 1st gear is. Its like 1st in a NV4500. Its so low its pretty much not usable or even necessary for that matter. They should have gone with something like 3:1 similar to the Allison and then kept the 2.36:1 2nd. Would have made for a much smoother pull from a stop, had enough to gear to let it spin up a little, and still be plenty low to have good power on take off. I'm not sure if GM is throwing TC lockup into the shift routine or not. That may explain some of the "extra" shifting. I know the HD 4L80E's did in 3rd before shifting to OD.

I like it, but I do agree it likes to downshift too much.

And its almost Caddy like soft shifts....I need to get a tune done to firm up the shifts a little.

I am quite happy with the "get up and go" of the truck. it feels almost like my tuned 4.8 at WOT. I will tune the engine for fuel economy, I am not looking for a max tune on this one. But the marshmallow shifting has to go.

I have a 2010 Z71 5.3L BTW.
