Default rear end problems?

hey guys I have a 2001 silverado 5.3 4l60e just got the transmission in and it runs great but i noticed when i turned left there was a pop coming from the rearend like it was staying locked in (it spun both tires) it has always spun both and every now and then just 1 but today it spun both so as soon as i heard the pop i pulled back in the driveway and stopped. I checked my fluid a month ago and it was full and it doesn't appear to have a leak. I was wondering if i could maybe change the fluid or if there is any (cheap) solution to try before a replacement. thanks!

edit: when i checked it was three months ago but i only drove it one month and there want any metal shavings on the bolt

Sounds like the spider gears are smoked or the unit it self is toasted. I would almost bet on it..

My first rear end did this. Finally I did a 4-2 downshift one day and it kaboomed.

I bet if you take that rear cover off, you are not going to like what you see.

Same thing happened to me. A Spider gear in the g80 grenaded, luckily it didn't take anything else with it. Pull the cover off and take a look at it. I wouldn't drive it anymore.
