Default Question about 4L80E

Hello,

My transmission needs to be rebuilt/replaced. I have a stock 2001 Chevy Silverado with 5.3L V8. I plan on doing some performance modding.

At this point in time, I am thinking about swapping from my stock tranny (4L60?) to the 4L80E. Can I just purchase an used one and have my mechanic bolt it on? Are there any special things to consider?

My mechanic is great, but I hate giving him projects that have "surprises". Could someone share some information, or point me in the right direction for the 4L80E swap?

Thank you,

T.J. Albrecht

Nevermind. I was able to do some more reading, and this swap sounds much more complicated than I anticipated.

I guess I will rebuild this time around, and swap later when I have more time to allocate.

If you're planning to go 500+Rwhp then you should go ahead and get the 4l80E.
The 60E will have a tough time trying to handle that much power.

Yeah, Speed Engineering (sponser) sells the conversion kit also. But it's kinda pricey. I think it's cheaper to buy the 4l80E tranny and install it, then to rebuild the 60E then convert to the 80E.
