A couple things about the first picture. See all the black sitting on the plate, is this clutch material? There is a fair amount of it in the trans, last picture shows it also. Also on the top left side you can see where the plate over hangs the valve body and exposes holes. The second picture is of the plate where the check ***** are. Is that normal??
Thank you

another thought i had, ive got a derale deep pan and a lokar dip stick. would being a quart low/high make this do the 1st, 1st and a half, 2nd shift? it will only do this when it hooks so im wondering if all the trans fluid is running away from the filter and starving it for a little bit since the pan is full depth all the way back not close to the filter and tapered like the stock. i guess my other choice is to have the tuner go over it and make sure its not being told to do that in some sense

i found a problem that hopefully fixes my problem. i separated the separator plate and found that the hole that was drilled for 2nd had a burr between plates. if you look at my second picture in the above 3 pictures. there are two holes which had the check ***** in them that show some damage. look at the hole above the left check ball hole and you will see the plate is actually raised up some. it had a small burr between all plates and i think when i tightened everything up it just bent the plate like that. i deburred it and got it flattened some and ran a stone over it so hopefully that is fixed. if not ill be getting a new sep plate.

With the wear on the plate I would switch to torlon check ***** in the future. They will not wear the plate in a short period of time like steel ones do.

thank you vince. would you suspect that since the burr was on the 2nd gear hole that that is a probable suspect of my issue? Ill find out for sure in the next couple days once I get it back together. Also the two holes that are worn bad were right next to that 2nd gear hole the others were not to bad. I read about the torlon ***** and will switch to them if I end up changing out the separator plate. And vince if I do this stuff and it doesn’t work out could I send you my valve body or have you do one up and send me? Thank you for all the help through this adventure

Hopefully you found your issue. 236 is pretty hot not moving. What size cooler do you have? Was the engine getting hot too?

I've got a 40k but had no air moving over it in stop and go traffic even part of it up a long tall bridge so when I did move it was up on converter the whole time. Motor was getting a little hot too.
