Default Pinion angle ?

I have 2'' drop shackles and removed the overload spring I never checked the pinion angle before doing any of this does anyone know what the correct or factory setting is supposed to be. Thanks in advance.

Totally off the top of my head, I think the ideal static position is 2-3* down (or negative) such that when you gas it, the pinion snout will rotate up slightly putting the dynamic angle at or about 0*.

just doing shackles will move your angle up positive and throw it off more. you want it around -2*

Mine was up 2 with the shackles. I have a thread on here about my adventures with vibrations. I have shimmed +2 to -4 and so far -3 ish seems to work best, all around.

to me the drop shackles will give you more of a negative angle b/c it relocates the rear of the leaf spring higher making the pinion face downwards.

now with drop hangers it will give you more of a positive angle b/c it relocates the front of the leaf spring higher making the pinion face upwards.

that's just my take on this...

Mine works best a hair more than -3, I can pull a degree or so either direction with my long bars, it makes it a little easier to fine tune without shim changes.

Just like BlueCajun said this is incorrect.

For 2" shackles you shouldn't have to adjust the pinion angle. If your really worried about it measure your pinion angle and go from their before you buy any shims. If you have some sort of trac bars this must be taken into consideration too. Less negative pinion is needed with trac bars.

You can do shackles by themselves, but you can't do hangers by themselves. Hangers always need to be done with shackles otherwise you will have horrible issues with a positive pinion angle.

that makes a lot of sense

so with that said... what about a flip kit?

i never really paid attention to my pinion angle til a buddy and I were talking about it the other day and i got up under my truck to look and looks like the pinion is pointing up... i meant to grab my angle finder from work before i left so i could check this weekend but forgot...
