Default picked up the "new" trans

I was surprised...this thing looked smaller than I was expecting....I guess this is what I expected a standard truck transmission should look like
I gotta say, I'm more excited picking this up than the 6.0.

Can anyone decipher the code on this transmission? It's supposedly out of an 04 w/30k on it. I was surprised to see it doesn't say "4l80e" on the side...just hydramatic.

Magnet was clean:

This is some fluid I drained out of the TC. Very clean fluid, has a slight smell to it, not nearly as strong as the new ATF I poured in the other cup.

Here's the filter that came out of the trans. Does anyone have the Part # for this so I can buy a new one?

HD2 shift kit, circle D or PI 3 disk 3000-3400, still undecided 10.5 or 9.5", 0 torque management, and a lot of hell

Congrats man, I know that you're totally stoked...going with the triple disc huh! Wish I had the bucks for that, but it's definitely the way to go to make it bulletproof. BTW, the 80E's don't say it on the case as far as I know, but the 60E's do.

looks to be an 05 by the date stamped in the tag. you will know for sure if 1 gear makes noise.... The 05 and up came with a five pinion strait cut (hints the noise) rear planet. aka 4l85e

I called PATC transmissioncenter net earlier today. They want $400 including $100 refundable core to build this crossmember. Conversely, if I send them mine they will do it for $200.

transmissioncenter dot net

Speed engineering charges $300 for the crossmember.

OR, I can just go to a junkyard, get a crossmember for cheap and find someone to cut it and weld it up for me. It looks like the part the trans sits on needs to be moved back 6 1/4".

The way I do this swap I want to easily be able to go back to the 60e if need be. So I need to retain my stock crossmember. Here's a pic of it. I'm pretty sure this is the same crossmember that comes on all extended cabs. I do believe the reg cabs have different crossmembers.

Anticipated costs:

Trans - $650
HD2 shift kit - $100
crossmember ($300 - speed eng) - could possible do this much cheaper
speed eng driveshaft yolk - $160
converter - $1000
sell tc/flexplate/spacer - +$100
sell stock 60e - +500
total cost for swap: $1610 (if I was using the stock 80e converter total cost would be ~600)

Congrats on 80 swap. That is the same crossmember I have in my 03 RcLb.
