Hah, the shims were in there from when I installed shackles years ago (which I was told to do fat end back), then I did hangers two weeks ago and didn't change the shims, so yes they are in the wrong way. Funny thing is, I only get a slight shudder taking off from a dead stop, and a little vibration from 15-25mph, nothing else. I'm going to raise the carrier bearing and flip or remove the shims (if I need more than 2*). Might need 6* like Black here.

the fat side facing the front of his truck would kick the pinion up even higher. to point the pinion down some the fat part would need to point at the shackles.

No, fat end forward will rotate the pinion of the diff down toward the ground.

Fat end forward picks up the pinion.

Hmmmm. Well..... I am pretty trad-er-ific..... I got everything apart and i am bolting up the shims and i noticed the passeneger side leaf spring was kinda flopping around. Appartently the damn nut that holds on the front side of the spring decided to exit the vehicle. Sooooooooo the bolt is just moving around freely. Luckily i have drop hanger and the frame was keeping the bolt in place. No telling how long it has been like this.....

Well it is all fixed. I put a nut on the damn leaf spring bolt.

And

I put in a 6* & 2* shim. Not my rear end points down -2* and the drive shaft is at 2*. Sooooo i am at -4* static. I decided not to replace the leaf spring bushings at this time. Truck drives good. Took it up to 90mph and it was smooth as glass.
