Default ongoing 4wd-2wd thread and weight loss

i will be updating this thread as things progress. it may take awhile to get to the end because i have a lot of plans. my eventual goal is to get this pig under 4000lb's and get some 1.3x 60' times. current weight of truck is 5025lb's but i cant remember if that is with the gate or not. i think that was without the gate.

first step tonight was to pull off some of the front end 4wd stuff. here are some weights of things taken off.

18.5lbs for left axle
18.5lbs for right axle
80lbs for front diff
15lbs for front drive shaft
8lbs for front diff bracket
2lbs for front shaft front loop
2lbs for front shaft back loop
(.5lbs) for the pair of heavier 2wd hubs.

**143.5lbs for front drivetrain. **

some other significant weight reductions i have planed are...

lighter weight front rims and tires. current wheel and tire is 57lbs each
get rid of tcase for ~85lbs
front coil overs and adj front shocks, get rid of tortion bars, anyone know how much they weigh?
other basic stuff like exhaust, pasenger seat, light weight drivers seat, nitrous kit once i get a tbrake and higher stall.
eventualy a 4 link and coil over set up in the back. 100+lbs.

***** copy from below*******

round 2. tortion bar suspension

20lbs for left tortion
20lbs for right tortion
15lbs for tortion bar cross member
3.5lbs for cross member brackets and bolts
4.5lbs for left key
4.5lbs for right key
4.5lbs right shock
4.5lbs left shock
add 4lbs for shock brackets
add 10lbs for right coil over
add 10lbs for left coil over

**52.5lbs for tortion bar stuff. **

couple of other things i pulled off

4.5lbs for tcase controler
10lbs for sway bar with hardware
3lbs for 2 suspension limiters
5lbs for evap stuff
7lbs for evap bracket, spare tire bracket, exhaust hangers.

**29.5lbs total other stuff. **

76lbs for tcase
4lbs for 2 quarts of fluid
+5lbs for longer driveshaft and extra tranny length

**75lbs for tcase. **

90lbs for new sumped fuel system with ~15gallons less fuel

total 143.5+52.5+29.5+75+90 = 390.5lbs

that swaybar is good for about 40lbs if you are willing to give it up... plus your front sus will end up with more travel.... that will mean better weight transfer, better 2WD launch, and ultimately, better ET's....

When I 4 linked my typhoon I lost about 150lbs. I am thinking that your springs will weigh more than the typhoons. I forget how much I lost when I dropped the tortion bars and crossmember (key's ect.) in favor for the new tubeular A arms and coil overs, I think I lost 75lbs not sure thow. I forget.

i am looking at the air ride front suspension stuff. it is expensive but sure looks nice or i might just try a traditional coil over and keep my a arms. that would be much cheaper.

the torsion bars and keys weigh a pretty good bit id say thats atleast 150lbs, then the torsion bar crossmember ??lbs. I wouldnt think you would need the crossmember then other than maybe frame support.

hmm. i was wondering if i should go for tcase elimination or front suspension work first but it looks like the front suspension is going to save me more weight and it is farthur up front too.
