Default Not so Ugly Hitch

The hitch that came on my truck is ugly, it hangs down too far, and the trailer light bracket was welded on crooked.

I modified the hitch by notching the round tube and raising the receiver to the bottom of the bumper.

Then I put the trailer plug behind the license plate.

I saved the hitch rating sticker and put it back on, now I'm waiting for a spring loaded license plate hinge.

Good job man!
I may have to have someone do mine so I can put it back on.

Thanks for compliments.
I trust my welding skills. I have been doing it for a while.
It does not look to good in this picture

But I worked on it for several more hours before I was done. I'm no engineer but I think it's stronger than the factory unit.
I took the factory hitch apart (with a big grinder, and sawsall) in less than 1 hour. It will take several hours to take apart the one I welded.
But you would laugh at my equipment.

An old buzz box, the on off switch is broken, and the **** to change the amperage is broke off. I use vise grips to change the amps, and I wind up the welding leads on the pipes for the gas meter.(once was a man his name was Jed)
I melted about 15 1/8 inch rods into this thing, it will hold.

I need a speaker for my welder too, I can barely hear it without one.
