Default No fluid flow???

This weekend I finally got my engine running but now the trans is acting up.

Once it's warm, it struggles to take off in 1st gear. Once it gets to 2nd, it seems ok. The shifts are a lot smoother than before. I have my trans temp gauge after the cooler and it barely moves even though "TRANS HOT... IDLE ENGINE" message appears on the dash.

I had to drop my gas tank to fix a broken hose this weekend and the problems started after that. I don't recall getting anywhere near the tranny but is there something I could have done???

I tried running some SeaFoam trans flush but it didn't work. I'll drop the pan in the morning. Is there anything I should look for?

Thanks,
J.R.

Check the trans fluid level (with the engine running). If the level seems high, shut the engine off, pull a hose from the aux trans cooler, and drop that in a bucket. Start the engine again. If fluid spews from the hose into the bucket, the pump may be fine. If not, bad pump. They don't give much (if any) notice when they go bad. I've got a pic of a busted pump posted somewhere here in one of a few 4L60E rebuild threads I posted.

Try that, and go from there.

Okay, everything is still attached, fluid level is good.

It did spew fluid when I cranked it. I did feel it yesterday when I had the overheat message and the line felt only slightly warm... But now I have flow... WTF???

Well, I got my truck back from Circle D yesterday. A washer had broken apart and decided to hang out in the torque convertor. They said there was about 1/8" of shavings in the bottom of the pan. It also messed up the clutch pack, planetary gear and 3rd and 4th gear bands. They said it wasn't nearly as bad as they thought it would be.

They replaced the convertor for free since it was theirs but they really didn't have to because the washer came from the tranny. I got a beast sun gear and went back with a Z pack and wide bands.

I think I may go to the track next weekend to celebrate!

That must have been one smart washer to find it's way into a converter. Good to hear that your back up and running. Vince

Yes I am sitting here trying to figure out how a washer gets from the trans to the converter through those little holes. Perhaps you misunderstood but good you got it fixed

He said it broke apart and I guess the pieces made it there... Is that possible? I do know there was a lot of shavings in the pan for sure.

Anyhooz... go celebrate!
