Default Need Your Help, my final decision on the 4l80

So here it is.

Option 1
Buy an 04 4l80 takeout with 10miles on it for 1200.00 install shift kit 300.00, and fuddle racing converter at 600.00 - Total 2100.00

or

Option 2
FLT level 4 with Vig 2800 for 3000.00 everything included.

It seems like the extra 900.00 is the unecesary cost of a rebuild down the road plus a better converter if I pick option 2.

Thoughts if a budget only allows for option 1?

I think option 1 would take you quite a long way. Parish went quite quick with just a stock 4l80e with a shift kit.

Look into a Protorque TC, I have heard some good things about these., http://www.protorque.com/prodln/pl.htm

I think the best TC is the Vigilante by Precsion Industries. P.E. offers a full 2 year unlimited warranty and 1 free stall adjustment during that 2 year warranty. This is handy if you up the boost, or change your setup.

Yank says that it doesnt recommend a shift lit with their TC's?? I thought that was weird.

I have heard many good things about Fuddle Racing also.

A 4l80e, shift kit and converter would be a nice combo.

I wonder if you would really need a level 4 4l80e in your truck?

peace

Saving $900.00 is a good thought right about now! I definitely would like to take the cheapest route now but leave the option to do an upgrade down the road as long as I can get at least 2 years out of it. I currently have plans to upsize to 2.4L or 3.3L blower so more power capability down the road is a must.

cheers

i'm in the same boat as you right now. I already have a yank 3000 stall and am trying to decide if I should get a total rebuild for $1700, a shift kit installed for $400 or a level 5 from one of the sponsors for $2100. Pretty much everyone I've asked has said the shift kit will be fine for up to around 600rwhp. BUT, within a year I plan to upgrade the blower and have hopefully around 800rwhp.

I think i'm gonna do the tranny in stages. Shift kit now, then when i'm ready for the new blower, do the full rebuild.

How much is the convertor? That makes the TC sound like it is $1200.

And you do know that FLT has a discount this month.

After rereading I think I misunderstood the question. I think it was meant as a Level IV 80 not 60 that is my fault.

Fuddle's converter aretn **** but Ill will fully test one as soon as I get my damn motor back up and running. I would do the FLT if it was me I think Im going to go that route when I do my 80e swap I would get the Fuddle converter though it is a hell of alot cheaper than the other one and IMO they are overated from what I have seen on this board.

The difference in price is the cost to make the tripple disk clutch. Im leaning on trying the Fuddle.

The PI converter is 950.00. Despite the FLT discount it is much more vs the stocker so I'll have to ponder this over the next 24 hours!
