But, u & have talked bout this too. He will def. get rid of his worries w/ 80e swap. Plus, Lance has done the 80e swap.

I'm not familiar w/ workin on that AWD/ 4wd ****. But, I'll lend a hand if I can.

Black2003ss, sent ya a PM.
Ive seen 80Es go from $400-800. Mine come out of a wrecked 2500hd.. the LQ4 was bolted to it when my friend bought it from Lilreddevil last year.

Approx 45k miles on them. We put a HD-2 Shift kit in the 80E and slapped it in.. Total i think it might have been $900 for everything.. My first built 60E was 1300..

Just need to move 2 wires on the trans connector, and find a Connector for the Front VSS. Modify cross member and tune it..
Problem solved.
A HD2 Shift kit in a 80E should hold approx 600rwhp somewhat easy.. 400-500 on a 60E is pushing the timer on the bomb..

I've looked at the 80E option, and its not cheap. New cross member, wiring harness adapter, new custom length driveshaft for both the rear and transfer case, transfer case adapter, etc. I have seen most 80E swaps even with a junk yard 80E go for $3-4k. So its not cheap. Not to mention, I would need a new 80E converter as well. Thats $900. It looks like that if I want to keep the truck supercharged, I am going to have to cough up $3k min.

FLT said 4 weeks to get a trans and about $3200-3300 + a new converter. The yank is $450, so that $3,750 and havent even paid someone to put it in yet.

How do I know Deweys trans can take as much as the FLT level 5? I dont want to buy someone elses problem. I am just paralyzed with fear because I really only get one shot at this. I cant afoord to buy a trans and then one month later be doing it all over again.

I can only tell you one thing, if you need to buy a new trans one month later, either the builder messed up or you're driving like an idiot. I'm still on my stock trans and i'm pretty sure i have a little over 400hp.

Do you not know anybody that can weld? Or do fab work?
Wiring harness adapter is for the Lazy crowd.. Swap 2 wires in the trans connector and add a connector for the Front VSS. Fix the tune and your ready.
Driveshaft shops around here only charge 100-150ish for shorten/lengthen DS..
Will the Transfer case not bolt up with the right input shaft thing?
If you can find a stock Converter your set..

By the time you put another 60E in there, you could have put a 80E in there and been done with all the headaches..

Ive pulled my 60E out 16 times, Torque Converter problems to Broken output shafts.. I went with the 80E and wont look back. Only thing i had to get was a Yoke, my DS fit fine.. My 2wd was easy, just cut the tower off and rotate it to point toward the rear of the truck and weld it on.

I just hate to see people keep putting 60Es in. They are goin to Fail, just a matter of time.

it seems pretty clear to me, 80E... my 80E came with a stock TC.

things you need off the top of my head.

: gasket for transfer case to trans
: seals for transfercase.
: driveshafts modded
: crossmember- i modded my stock one.
: move the 2 wires like noonie said
: mod trans lines or get SS ones ($120)
: transfer case gear
: tune
: TC bolts
: flexplate (maybe)
: trans fluid/ filter
: dip stick tube

also hughes sells a TC for cheaper. i think thunder550 is running it on his truck.

3-4K seems pretty high if you do the work.

I could lend a hand.
I would go rebuilt 4L65e.
biggest PITA is pulling it. I need to pull mine to replace the TC and am not looking forward to it. Jack it up high and pull it and take it to get rebuilt...
a 4L80 is going to rob some power and still not be unbreakable.

After talking with several shops and doing ALOT of research...

Here are my preferences in order so far. Pretty much price driven.

1. Performabuilt Level 3( I know some members have had an issue and I really think its because of the 9.5" converter he includes. Frank and I agreed to go with a 2500 stall converter from him at 12".) He will get it out to me in 7 business days with no core required. He's about $600 less than the competition. 1 yr warranty no questions asked. $950 rebuild charge no matter what there after.

2. FLT Level 5 - Spoke with them and I was really impressed. I think they have a good product. But after its all said and done, I will still be near $3,900 if I swap it out myself. With performabuilt ( who seems to stand by his products even if he has had an issue with a trans or two ) I will only be out about $3200-3400 total paying someone to swap it out for me. FLT also told me on the heavier side of 4 weeks, but said they would see what they could to expidite it since its my DD. 6 month warranty. $250 refresher charge + parts, so depending on whats wrong/broke, it could go near the $950 mark.

3. Tie between Rossler and ACE. Spoke with rossler, wants to rebuild my core only, doesnt have a core ready to build and ship. 4-6 weeks turn around time.

4. Ebay trans - from traverse city. Emailed the guy, have not heard from him yet. Cheapie anyways at $925. But it might get me by.

So without BASHING any vendor or sponsors, please politely critique my choices and help me make a final decision. I dont plan on modding past a 2.9 pulley as I already sold the cam to pay for a diff repair earlier this year.

ive had a FLT level 4 in before swapping to the 80E. awsome trans shifted WAY better then stock, held up to everything i through at it. i just swapped to an 80E then upgrading to the level 5. i went out to chicago to drop my core off and pick my new trans up. hung out with vince for an hour or so and got a tour of the shop. great shop, and a great guy. if my 80E ever takes a crap im going to FLT no matter what.

so my vote is for FLT. you get what you pay for.
