Default Need a new converter

Well I guess I need to step up to a bigger converter. I have a 2800 stall in it right now. I went to the track last night and tried to brake boost the truck to launch under boost. As soon as it would start to build boost mabey 1 - 1.5# it would start pushing the truck. My 60' times were horable and it didnt really start to build boost until the 60' So time for a new converter.

Im thinking somewhere around 3200, but am open for suggestions. Also im trying to decide between Yank and P.I. give me your opinions and experiences.

Mike

You could always upgrade your brakes, that might help. What cam do you have?

I'm going with a PI cuz of the hardened shell and multi-disc. The truck is so heavy, it's worth spending an extra few hundred$ and never worry about it. Plus, 2 year warranty and a free re-stall if you're not satisfied.

You might wanna call over to PI and talk to Jack about it. Sounds like a 3200 Vig will put you where you want to be.

Your converter may be fine. You need to load the engine to build boost, not really rpm's with a turbo, right? Not positive since i'm not running a turbo. Anyway, you may want to think about losing the 4.10 gears. Some 3.73's or 3.42's would most likely help you load the engine more and build more boost at the line.

Cam is stock.

I do think the drum brakes that the truck came with hurt while trying to brake boost it, but I dont really want to do a disk conversion right now.

The turbo thing is new for me too, and I am wanting to get some input from guys who are running them.

Call precision and tell them what you have. They do make some special internals for turbo applications to allow you to make some boost off the line. I think this might help you out. I believe they call it a turbo stator. Good luck, Vince.
