Hey guys, I need some advice on building my 8.5 gm rearend. Option code is g80. It needs to be able to withstand 600 to 650whp. I'm not real sure how to go about this. Can you make a gm 8.5 hold that kind of power? Should I step up to the 14 bolt 9.5 rear out of the 2500 trucks? Any advice would be great! Thanks Dylan.

 

any of the after market 8.5" LSD units should be fine, its all about it being set up properly.

But if your worried then step up to the 14 bolt

 

I was talking to a guy a moser and said he couldn't build it strong enough. Which is why I thought I'd ask a see. I have access to a 14 bolt but it's 8 lug axles. I'm not sure if I can swap axles.

 

Of coarse he cant build a 8.5", he wants to sell u a 9" or a S60 lol. Plenty of 10bolts running 500- 800 hp on this site. Eaton locker and a good set of gears and have them setup right and get at it.

 

Haha that's exactly what he wanted to do! He said i could build you a 9" for around 5k. Lol I'm looking into a Yukon dura trac locker set up with some USA gears. I'm going to with 4.56s seeings how I'll be doing the t56 swap as well.
