need advice on torque converter
Im looking at getting a yank with either a 2600 or 3k stall. this will go on a 5.3 regcab with rock-on built 4l60 and 3:42 open diff. I plan on eventually sticking a different motor in but for now doing boltons, cam(Tr220), and maybe heads with the 5.3. And when i get some more money the rear will be changed to an eaton with 3.73-4.10 gears. This is a daily driver with stock cam for now. Should i get the 2600 or go ahead with the 3k? Being that it would be daily driven bolt on truck i wasnt sure which to get since truck will temporarily be traction limited with the open diff. thanks in advance

I'd take a different route. With a higher stall converter you will be doing alot of one wheel peels, even with a stock camshaft. I would get an eaton (and you want gears too, so do that at the same time) and wait on the converter choice until you are ready for camshaft selection, the converter should be matched to your cam's powerband for optimum performance.

I would also do the gears and locker first, wait I already did that lol. I did 4.10 gears and eaton locker with the tr 220 112. Like Nickvrebel said with an open diff I think you will be doing a lot of one wheel smoke shows.

thanks for the advice guys. i would do the gears and locker first except the tranny is going to be limping all the way to the tranny shop, otherwise i would do it that way. im getting the converter when the tranny gets rebuilt. i should still be able to drive part throttle without spinning too badly shouldnt i? tires are brand new so trust me when i say gears and eaton arent far behind. dont want 3brand new tires and one wasted one. i was just asking as a matter of current driveability and of matching future performance upgrades. btw Blue5.3, do you feel there is more left in your engine? I'd at least like to hit mid to low 13's with the 5.3. also, what rpm are you going through the traps at with the 4.10's. thanks,
Bryan

Get the 3K. I had the G80 and 3.42s with my Whipple and a 2200 rpm converter. Tranny took a dump, did rebuild and put an Edge 3000 in. Unless you are stomping the **** out of the go pedal 100% of the time, you will be just fine with the open rear end (even though I had the G80) for a short while.
You will want to get the Eaton and 4.10s in there quickly after you do a few one- legged takeoffs. You will just be a bit traction limited until you get the gears/posi done.
