Default My turn ,out with the 4L60e

Never made it to the strip Fri night, smoked the clutches in the trans. Started slipping on the highway and clutch material must have plugged the filter, had no forward movement. The horsepower of the new motor was too much...
Going to pick up a 4L80e next week and have done the research on the swap but need to ask you guys with big HP,650 or so what do you reccomend for the 80? I know HD shift kit and going to put a 3000 stall converter in but what else?

thats about it unless you wanna pick up one the rebuild kits with red alto clutches and blue steels to make sure its bulletproof. It's an easy swap but don't waste your money on the wiring harness or the yoke just repin the 4l60e plug and go to the junk yard and get you a yoke out of a 2500hd and then get a precision u joint part # 447

Thanks guys, I'll look for those red & blues. Found that info on the wiring and have a print out for it . I did a Denny's drive shaft when I put the 370 in so it's got 1350 u joints and chrome moly yokes, hope they will shorten it for a couple bucks.

So how long before I'm looking for a new rear?

what are you running right now ? and the yoke has to be changed or it will not go in the 4l80e the output shaft on it is alot thicker and it's a lot cheaper to do the junk yard yoke $20 dollars opposed to $90 and up for one off the net or from the vendors.

The rear is the stock 10 bolt with locker / 3.73's . Thinking a 14 bolt or maybe a narrowed 9" for replacement.?
I forgot about the yoke! Think I better go with a CM yoke though.

I'm a 2000 Extended cab and I didn't have to get my DS shortened.. just got a Turbo 400 long yoke and trimmed 5/8" off to fit.. So I think you will be good. just get a yoke and test fit it.

I am still using my stock drive shaft with a bastard joint and the Strange 1350 yolk for the trans. Fits perfectly in a RCSB.
