my LVL6 65e compared to a stock 80e
#2
Thats what winter time and all the reading does, makes ya think.
My trans was just refreshed/rebuilt with all the goodies it can have ( 4L65E), But yet i wander also if i should have went 80E??
Im gonna run what i got and if it breaks then i believe an 80E with new clutches and shift kit oughta be more than enough.
Damn winter, makes us go crazy over thinking stuff!!!

I should have given the history to my LVL6 in the original post first.
Also this is in no way meant to put down FLT [they have great customer service and build awesome transmission's].This truck is not my DD and gets run pretty hard when it is driven.
When I did the LQ4, cam & blower swap is when the LVL5 originally went in.It lasted for about 10k miles before the 3-4 clutch pack wore out but everything else held up great internally. So I sent it back to FLT and had it rebuilt and added the billet output shaft. This LVL6 lasted for about 5k miles and was sent back to FLT last Nov.It had the same issue as before. It lost the 3-4 clutch pack but everything else looked good.Chuck and Andy really helped me out on this rebuild and Chuck also changed a few things to help with my 3-4 issue.
The trans is back in my truck and only has about 50-100 miles on it.This is where my original post comes in.I've always wanted to avoid the 80e swap but I currently have a brand new LVL6 in my truck that I'm wondering should I sell now because I know it is in perfect condition and do an 80e swap.I probably could get the swap done with a stock 80e for the what I can sell my built 65e for but if I really need a built 80e that changes ****.
Or do I run the LVL6 with the new changes and hope for the best.I totally believe FLT builds a bad *** trans but I'm I at it's limits?

I wouldnt trust a 60e built by anyone with the weight, size tires and pwoer youre running. I will be swapping back to an 80e myself at some point in time because I just dont trust the small parts that are in 60es.

I would at a min put a shift kit in it, just for haha's and a little bit of, a quicker shift.. Stock should be fine for you Russ.. I am in the same boat, but will decide once the 60 takes a crap.. Your weight is what is taking the toll on the trans, moreso then the power... I would keep your eyes out for a used 80, massage it a little bit...
