Default manual trans

Hello

What all does it take to adapt my 2000 gmc trucks 5 speed trans to a 5.3 or 6.0 engine.

Nothing, just take your motor out and drop the new one in. Nothing special required at all.

There is obvioulsy a problem with the design of the internal shifting rails. I and my friend have had problems with this.

The 2-3 shift is a b*tch. Mine has 2700 miles on it and from the sound of it, it looks like it will always have that hard shift. I thought because mine was new it was so tight it would not go. Has anyone seen an improvement with an aftermarket shifter like a hurst or something?

I had a problem with my 5 speed the next day after I bought it. It would just pop out of first gear at the light. It would do it on a hill, and I would almost hit the car behind me. I took out the 5 speed asap, and put the 6 speed in. That was one of the best things I did to the truck, other than the turbo. mjhoward made good power with the 5 speed, 400 plus to the wheels, ran 12's with it. A stock 6.0 will not put out those numbers, if he can do it, maybe you can. I am getting lucky on my stock 6speed. I thought it wouldn't take the weight of the truck, hell it's taking the weight and 600 plus HP almost 700tq to the wheels. No signs of breaking yet. sometimes you just get lucky.... Good luck!

I have a Hurst shifter . 1st. to 2nd. is better but 2nd. to 3rd. is still a bitch. I agree with MJhoward , I think it is in the design of the trans.
