Default Making noise in 4WD

Hey guys, this is my pretty much stock 99 Z71 5.3 Autotrac.

I noticed last time it snowed that my truck seemed to be making more noise than normal going down the hwy in 4X4. If I remember correctly it did it in Auto as well.

It has 190,xxx miles on it and the front diff was the only fluid I hadn't changed so I did that yesterday, with no effect.

Any ideas or am I just being pananoid.

my 05 av. has a noise in the front when its in 4wd, I had the cv axles out when I did the ball joints, and they felt notchy and rough, I have a new set to go in, but haven't found time, maybe tomorow. I got the truck with 117,300 now it has 142,xxx, its had the noise the whole time I've had it

The front diffs are known to go on our trucks, I know mine is shot. I believe that a retaining clip breaks causing the diff to rock around and eat itself up...not saying this is your problem, but it is a problem that I've heard of before...

Pretty sure that once the diff starts making noise that it will need a rebuild...if that's your problem, might get lucky and just end up needing a bearing or something though...

Mine does basically the same thing. But mine makes sound going down the road without it being in 4x4. And when its locked in it makes a clunking noise. Im going to order some new CVs soon and see if that helps but if it doesnt Im gunna try and find a new differential. Anybody know any good places to locate one??
