M20 to replace NV3500? LOTS of PICS TOO
I have a 2000 Silverado RCSB 4.8L V8 + Clapped out 5 speed NV3500..
122,xxx on ODO with Original drivetrain.
[IMG][/IMG]
It is having shifting problems(NO 2ND & 4TH)
1st 3rd n 5th are all fine(3rd gets hung up sometimes)
It also has a "whinning" when driving that makes it sound like it has a Blower. Maybe bearings going bad?
I have also read that if someone has been driving it n banging gears that it
will do damage internally. (Shifting forks I have read most)
I thought "Bleed the system" NO WIN YET
I Thought it could be the clutch? If I replace the clutch n its the trans I will feel stupid.
I have been reading that I can use my flywheel to do a OLDSCHOOL trans swap.

I have a M20 (26 spline/two rings)Muncie 4 speed laying around & would like a trans that I can bang gears in without fear of breaking somthing.
Not that I drive like a angry teenager, but if I feel like stomping on it I can.
My current trans(or Clutch) just feels like its going to die

I know it says M22 in Marker on it, but I think its a M20

I know I am going to hear "JUST GET A T56!!"
I have a Muncie in my hands with a hurst shifter.
I also have a LS1 flywheel, two bell housings, one is a truck alluminum, & the other a alluminum stock replacement. they have different sized hole in the middle but one looks like it will fit a BIGGER FLYWHEEL.

GM#626-3756
I figure 4.8 flywheel/ Muncie clutch/ Hydro throw out bearing from howes
& a LS2 pilot bearing??
Its on 24's with 305/35R24 tires
Stock G80 RPO(3.42 w/POSI?)
I figure since I dont do any highway driving I should be okay without the OD.
I dont plan on hitting any roadtrips in this truck, maybe a 2hr ride at most &
thats just me saying so. I havent drivin that far in a while.
Can I tow with this tranny?
Any info or help with this is highly appreciated in ADVANCED
THANK U

T56 gear ratios: 2.66/1.78:1/1.30:1 /1.00:1/0.74:1/0.50:1
M20 gear ratios: 2.56 / 1.91 / 1.48 / 1.00
Should be a good geared trans. Not drastically different from a t56 and a ton better than the nv3500. It probably wouldn't hurt for the ratios to be a little wider to get a heavy truck going, but from a roll it should be pretty nice. some deep rear gears would be awesome for it.
I've drove a m22 quite a bit. A m22 is a even closer ratio than the m20. Even with 4.11s, first gear took forever in it, but after that it was amazing. The more rpms, the better it shifted. A 30-100 roll with that trans would have been amazing.
Good luck with the swap. Keep us posted.

so u r saying that I should use a different set of gears for this trans?
I dont plan on going on a lot of road trips but wouldnt wanna spin too many RPMs running out of town for a Meet or Show or Scraping the Coast in June.
dont need it to be a race truck, but be durable.
I believe with the current package I would spin around 2652 rpm around 75mph
right now @ 70 I am doing 1750rpm
