Default Lowering Kit

I'm looking to do a 2/3 drop on my 00 Silverado RCSB and I was wondering which lowering kit I should go with and what would be the cheapest place to find one. I'd prefer to do leaf springs in the back instead of hangers and shackles. In the front I'd like to get new coils. Anyone know what brand I should get or where to get it?

I have heard good things about Hotchkis, but it is a 2/4. I don't think anyone makes 3" drop leaf springs for the rear.

Belltech and I think Western Chassis make 3" drop leaf springs for our trucks. I don't know anything about ride quality or anything but I do know you lose a little towing capacity. If you're looking to have a rake, there will still be a little bit of one with the 4" drop that the Hotchkis springs have.

The main reason I'm doing 3" in the back is so I'll still be able to tow stuff like a 4-wheeler, jetski, or whatever. I wasnt sure if they made 3" leaf springs or not but since they do that makes me feel better. I just got done looking at western chassis and if i just bought the 3" leaf springs that will cost me like $220 i think it was. The thing is if I buy one of their 2/4 kits for $239 thats on special right now with hangers and shackles. Which is better to go with hangers and shakles or leaf springs?

I would say go with the hangers/shackles combo! I was thinking about doing leaf springs my self but it is a lot cheaper going with hangers&shackles. Besides I think its a better set up. The hardest part is removing the hangers!

Support the body on jack stands and use the jack to raise or lower the axle to take the pressure off of the bolts in the shackle. They should slide right out when you get the pressure from the weight of the axle off of them. If not then put the nut on the bolt until it is flush with the end of the bolt. Get a block of wood and a hammer and tap on it till the bolt frees up. Then it should slide right out. Take the bottom bolt out first and use the jack to lift the axle up so that the top bolt will come out over the top of the frame. If that does not work you may be able to pull the leaf spring over enough to get the bolt out by taking the bottom bolt out of the shackle on the other side or by loosening the u-bolts holding the leaf spring to the axle one side at a time. Always keep the axle supported and work on one side at a time. The axle and springs are heavy and it can get really awkward if you undo both sides of the axle at the same time.

Good luck

got leafs on mine... bottoms with about a 400 lb load in it, but they were a lot... and I mean ALOT easier and quicker to install than the hanger shackle kit. I just got a set of sport air bags to install with 'em to be able to stiffen it up for hauling... havent had a chance to install them yet to know if they are worth a damn or not
