Default looks like the 4L80e is dead

my trans is really f'd up. I've been having a weird whistling sound coming from the truck ever since I got it back, actually, for the past year plus. I thought it was either in the stereo system or a vacuum leak. NOPE, it was my trans.

it is slipping pretty bad and now that I know what that feels like I can definitely say it has been doing it for a long time. It now will free rev in 3rd gear up to 4000rpm. yikes. No wonder I don't like driving the truck. The power isn't getting to the rear wheels.

Anyway, I need either a rebuild or a new trans. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks.

I see we have at least 2 sponsors that do transmissions. I'm hoping to avoid downtime because this is my only vehicle. I'm open to suggestions though.

+1. On both counts. Call Vince, & get something in the works. Worry about sending core after. That is, if he has 1 ready or prolly needs to build from his cores. VINCE?
Sounds like u plan on keepin truck now?

I PM'd Vince. He would need my core. I'd love to get a level 4 because it's much cheaper than a level 5. Would I be shooting myself in the foot not getting a 5?

May as well do it big the first time instead of finding out whether or not it will work later. If you don't, you may or may not have problems from it. If you did, you would be kicking your own *** for not doing it the first time. Atleast thats my take on everything!

how much power do you have now and how much do you plan on having?

if i remember correctly i think i say FLT post that the FLT lvl4 80e was good for up to around 800rwhp+ and the level 5 was good for around 1100rwhp. and this was the rating for trucks.

parish hit over 1,000rwhp on his and had a lvl 5
