Looking for advice on my 4L60E

Default Looking for advice on my 4L60E

So like it says I'm looking for advice on my trans. The truck is a 2000 2wd extended cab silverado 1500 with a 5.3L in it. I currently have a Volant cold air and am getting tri y's on soon with a blackbear tune and a vette servo. My trans has 160K miles on it and I've gotten a code twice that went away for trans component slippage. It only happens when I'm hauling stuff in hot weather. Heats up the trans and yeah I get some seriously hard shifts I don't like. Anyway I figured id start looking into what parts are common to replace or upgrade. I'm not looking to go crazy with shift kits and all that but I herd to get "the beast" sun shell. Was looking into maybe some advice on things like that that will make towing with my truck more reliable an such. Thanks guy!

I would invest in a Tru Cool 40k transmission cooler, smart investment. I love mine and love seeing that my temperatures are lower.

I have the stock external trans cooler on the truck originally. I really only got the code on long hauls in 90+ degree weather.

Ditch the stock cooler, as stated Tru Cool 40k would help reducing temps. Two things that kills a trans, heat and weight.

+1. About 4 times bigger than the stock cooler. And get a Sonnax billet OD servo since you will be towing, it increases apply pressure in 3rd and 4th to reduce slippage and heat. About $100 and installs with your vette servo.

Cool so throw on the list a OD servo. Should I even bother with "the beast" sun shell? Also what rebuild kit is quality? I know once I take it apart that I will need to inspect the planetaries but I would like to have some parts ready for me.

I would install the servos and cooler first, as neither need the trans pulled, then go from there.

Do they have a larger cooler that works with the factory lines? Like a direct swap?

Also with the OD servo do you have to adjust the length of anything?

Direct swap, use your existing lines. Do a search on here and there are a few write-ups about it, but it's really easy. Use two hose clamps for each line as they are pressurized (30 psi IIRC).

Nope, just swap and go. I used my stock pin.

If you are getting a PO1870 code I would suggest addressing the TCC regulator/isolator bore in the valve body. With the miles on the trans I'm sure its on the worn side. Its some thing that I would address with either an overhaul or a repair at this point. There are a few different ways to go about this. Blocking the valves, installing a different valve set up from the after market or replacing the valve body itself are really your options. Most shift kits will address this issue so I would not rule out installing a shift kit. Both the sonnax kit and the transgo kit address this circuit. Hope this helps. Vince
