AxisT6 installed a Yukon Duragrip with ARP studs in place of my weak link G80 differential. Ironically, the G80 held up for 5 years behind the blower, but the Yukon only made it one month.
On the way to work on Friday, I made a U turn under the freeway, then went WOT at about 20mph after I had straightened out, had a bit of tire spin, then let off at about 70. Nothing out of the ordinary, but when I turned into my parking garage and hit a speed bump, I head a loud metal on metal clank. I immediately pulled off to the side and looked under the truck, expecting to see a broken suspension park or driveshaft u-joint. Nothing. Decided I shouldn't drive it anymore, so pulled it into an open spot, but when parking, it did a chirp, chirp, chirp, lock and release thing, so pretty much assured me the differential was toast. Had it towed home after work. Opened it up today and found this...
Ring and pinion look good

Should I go with another Yukon Duragrip (essentially the same as an Eaton Posi), or upgrade to something stronger? A replacement will be under warranty or they will credit me towards another differential. This is my daily driver and not a track machine, so I would rather avoid a Detroit locker or something else not street friendly.

05 in my sig is my daily driver...... and has a Detroit locker. The truck is stock ride height and just 245/75/16 Goodyear Silent Armors....so not some off roader. Probaby the best traction mod I have ever done. Does it clunk occasionally? Yes. Does it drag the tires a bit in a tight turn.. under throttle it will, no throttle it acts like any other diff. Not to mention it's flat out awesome in the ice and snow wonderland I get 8 months of the year generally.
I have had Auburn LSD's as well as the Eaton clutched units and I will never go back.....

If for some reason they do not warranty it, you can buy the replacement spider gears and rebuild it. I broke the spiders in my Eaton back in '05 and replaced them with Yukon pieces and it has been great for 40+K miles now. Hopefully you just got a bum one and a new one will last. I am a fan of this style posi unit and wouldn't hesitate to change it out with another one under warranty.
