I just found a 2000 4L80E on craigslist with a fresh rebuild and a shift kit for $950. I know its always better to just buy a new tranny, but this is half the price of a new one. Plus a new HD torque converter is included and it has a 1 yr warranty. What do yall think?

unless a reputable shop built it and will warranty it I would have to pass..... any joe blow can throw new parts in, doesn't mean it's gonna work or last very long

Quoted for truth! Been there, done that! I trust my own builds, as opposed to some Joe Schmo local not-so-pro.

Well considering that and 01 up core usually cost us 500 to 600 dollars and a converter stock style near 200 that would be a deal if its any good and not a bad deal is its not,

I'm up in Austin, but my dad went and checked out the trans down in houston for me and I think we are gonna buy it. This guy works at a reputable shop so he isnt gonna go disapearing on me if for some reason the trans craps out, plus I can get 550 for the core so I'm only gonna be out like 500 for the whole thing if I do it myself, so thats really not that bad at all. I'm done with finals early next week so once I get back, I'll slap that thing in there and be done with this. Thanks for all the advice from everyone. I really wanted to get a new tranny or a built tranny, but in the end it came down to how much money I've got, and I cant borrow any more from my parents so I had to do something I could afford. Its a gamble, but my dad said this guy looks like he knows what he's doing so hopefully it wont give me any problems.
