Just lost reverse and FLT takes 6 weeks

Well I just got the truck tuned and it was shifting a little harder after the tune but not that much different. I was on the ranch this weekend backin up a feed trailer when all of a sudden I had nothing in reverse. Still drives fine in forward, but reverse is gone. I was gonna pay a little more and get a FLT 4L80E so I wouldn't have to worry about the tranny again, but they said that it would take them 6 weeks to get one out to me. This is my DD and I dont have that kind of time. What other options do I have besides just getting a new stock tranny put in there? Are there other places like FLT that beef them up? Truck is 1999 2500 with LQ9 and 4L80E.

If you can wait the 6 weeks its worth it. Chuck has a full plate being one of the best trans shops around for these transmissions. The wait is long, but the trans is great!
I have talked to him about this and I agree.....Its better to wait than higher workers that may not have the same outlook on quality as him and Vince do.

Try to find a local shop. Thats what i ended up doin instead of waiting on them. I ended up finding a guy that was somewhat the local equivelent, he even offers a type of warranty. Nothing against FLT at all, thy are just super busy, I know they took time for my calls when i went through this crap.

If you buy one from a chevy dealership they give you a 3 year 100k mile warranty. If anything ever goes wrong with it you just take it to the dealership and they pull it and fix it.. They are about $2100 for an 80 I think.

Thanks for all the info yall. Right now I'm low on cash and after getting prices from stock trannys and performance ones, it looks like my best option is to get the new 4L80E from GM with the 3 yr warranty. I am looking at getting a new truck when I get out of college, and this tranny will be under warranty until that time. I can install it myself and save a few hundred dollars there, so this is the cheapest route to go, plus I've got the warranty, which is really nice to have.
