I got a deep tranny pan for Xmas and decided to put the truck up on the lift. I lowered the tranny pan, and found gold!!

So, my bad luck continues. Does anyone know if this is from the converter or tranny? The tranny has 82k on it, and the converter was supposed to be new about 200 miles ago. Any help would be appreciated.

It seemed to be sort of sloppy shifting. It was never firm at all. It felt like the converter was locking up, but now I don't know. I put my hand on the converter about 45 min after I ran it, and it was so hot I couldn't leave my hand on it. It never threw a code.

I would have to agree that it looks like brass. If this trans is under warranty I would contact the builder to get it checked out. In most cases the bushings in these units are bronze. The only brass bushing I have ever seen was used for a 2wd tail housing for late model housings. I have seen issues with these aftermarket bushings and they can spin in the housing making debris close to what you have there. It might not be a bad idea to remove the drive shaft to take a look at your yoke to see if it looks ok. HTH Vince

Thanks Vincent, I was hoping you would respond. The tranny is a 99/00 with about 82k on it. Never been rebuilt that I know of. I was trying to think back, and I remember there seemed like a lot of room(more than what I would have thought) between the converter and the flexplate. When I started it initially I heard a noise that made me instantly shut it off. It ran for about 2 seconds, and it sounded almost like the flywheel was rubbing against something. I didn't see anything, so I started it again. The noise wasn't there anymore, and I never heard anything again. I assumed it was dye to the lines being empty, and the pump pushing air out. Now I am not so sure about it.
