Default I spoke too soon

I was just bragging about how long my FLT level 4 has lasted and I think it finally bit the dust. I was driving home from sonic and it wouldn't shift into 2nd at part throttle. I floored it and it shifted into second after it hit the rev limiter. I think what took it out was not using my window switch on the 150 shot this weekend. Anyways it couldn't have happend at a worse time. It was getting some body work on monday but not anymore. I know a 4l80e is my best long term option but I can probably upgrade to the level 5 for less since I dont have a 80e core. What do you guys think?

Sell the level 4 and buy an 80e, converter and throw a shift kit in the 80e and roll with it. Im going to be running a shift kit 80e with my 420 and 200+ shot. Shift kit 80es are holding 700rwhp.

Is that option better than a level 5? I think cost is about the same.

If it was me I would go to an 80e, as a matter of fact I did

I got tired of blowing 60e's up. I dont care how well built they are, in our heavy trucks with a stroker motor and a larger shot of nitrous they just cant handle it. With the 200 shot you are running you are probably putting down close to 700 rw-tq adds up to a trans thats not going to last long.

I would also go with the 80e with shift kit. Just be prepared for the 1st gear difference. I love the way my trans shifts with the HD-2 kit in 4x4, I think my u-joints love it less.

Oh man, I hate broken tranny threads.... The 80e will give you better top end too, once you get out of 1st gear.

He can just up the nitrous since he will have a trans to handle it

Ok I"m probably doing the 4l80e. What converter should I go with? I want a 3200 stall.

The 80e will give less top end speed due to its shorter 0.75:1 OD ratio (vs. the 0.70:1 60e/65/e/70e 4th gear).

The top end 4th gear acceleration will be greater, due to the increased gear advantage.

I really like the 200r4's ratios. 2.74:1, 1.57:1, 1:1, 0.67:1.

I assume a higher stall TC would help out with the 80e's longer 1st gear. (2.48:1 for the 80e and 3.06:1 for the 60e).

It should be a tad easier to hook up with the 80e as well.

peace
