Default How reliable are aftermarket gears?

I want to change out my gears but am worried about how long they will last. I drive this 07 daily and will never see the track. I also tow about 3000# on weekend trips.

I see these ring & pinion sets for 200 bucks or so. How long do they last?

As long as you go with a well known gear company you will be just fine. Most importantly you or whoever will be installing them needs to set them up correctly. Too much or too little backlash and preload will cause bad wear patterns and if not contacting each other enough can easily chew the teeth.

As mentioned above, the install is typically what makes or breaks gears.

Brands that quite a few people used are AAM (basically OEM replacement), Yukon, and Motive. I personally had really good luck with Motive.

I would not use anything except AAM. It's only marginally more expensive (4.10s are $200 from Ron)

He said the company was spider

Probably why I'd never heard of the company though.....

Anyways, he loves his motives

Motives are good. I broke a set of cheaper gears and they whined up until they broke. The Motives haven't made a single peep
