Default How to lower a truck?

I'm new to trucks, looking at getting an 01-06 two wheel RCLB or SB Silverado or Sierra pretty soon and want to know what I'm getting into. How and what needs to be done to get something around a 2"/4" drop? If I wanted to go lower, what would have to be done? Are there any clearance issues or do you just "install" the drop and be done?

Another question, are there any downsides to getting a long box over a short box?

With doing that small of a drop, there shouldnt be any clearance issues. A 2/4 on those trucks is very straight forward, and if you have any knowledge of hand tools and suspension, it will be a breeze depending on your style of drop kit. You can go with either drop springs or drop spindels in the front, and a hanger kit with lowering shackels in the back. Depending on which way you go, it should only be about a 3-4 hour job roughly without air tools. Get on Belltech's website and look at the directions they have posted for your body style truck. That might shed a little more light on what you have to do considering they show pics of everything.

Make sure to keep a fat girlfriend around to get rid of the "chevy lean."

Depends on the right you want...I wanted a firmer, performance oriented ride so I dropped my truck with coils and leaf springs.

Do you want it to ride like stock? If so get spindles and a hanger/shackle kit

Edit: I can almost promise you'll want to go lower than a 2/4

You're right I probably would like a firmer ride. I was going to add Bilstein HDs up front, my dad has them on his ECSB and it's a much firmer ride.

I like how D_reks truck sits and noticed he had a 2/4 drop. I'm also concerned about other mods that are necessary to go any lower than that. Is there a thread I can read though with a how-to regarding what needs to be done when lowering?

btw, lol brent i'll look into it.

Well I've never had to deal with dropping a NBS truck so I don't know what brands make what.

If you can though I'd get some Hotchkis coils...last I saw they were having a close out on em and selling them for $100 plus shipping.
