Default how to....

i have 3.73s and a g80 (i might wait and just buy a tru-trac if i can find on for a decent price) sitting in my room for my truck, does anyone have a how-to write up on how to do it? i have never torn into a rear end or tranny and cant have my truck down for any more than a day at a time and would rather not spend $200 to let someone else do something i can (probably) do myself.
thanks

unless you have all the tools, you need to pay someone to do it. you can ruin a set of gears otherwise

I'm going to agree. If it's not done right it's going to fly apart. I know people that know how to do it and still pay a mechanic to do it.

Have seen it done before. Not extremely difficult. However, this type of install is difficult to get accurate without the right tools to ensure prevention of premature gear wear & bearing/race failure. Careful with this. The phrase "pay me now or pay me later" comes to mind. I've done enough "pay me later"... I evaluate possible outcomes before I pick my battles these days.

Ive done gears swaps before, and I still prefer paying someone else to do it, the two things I dont mess with myself are transmissions and differentials...but thats just me

It is not a hard job. BUT you need a dial guage, inch lb rolling type torque wrench, gear marking compound, brush, a method of crushing the crush sleeve, pinion depth checker, and TIME.

if i dont already have it i can get it at work so getting the tools is no big deal. my mom's fiancee said he will help me since he has done gears before and has been a mechanic all of his life. i was just hoping to get some pointers and maybe a trick or two to make things go a little smoother and make me a little more comfortable. thanks guys
