hole thru oil pan, what's it for?

i have a 5.3 engine out of a 04 buick rainer that a open cylinder through the oil pan from right to left. what was this used for?

front drive axles on 4wd models, not sure about the Rainer, but that's how it is on the Trailblazer

that's interesting. i bought the engine & 4l60e tranny as a 2wd combo. i'm betting it was the tranny that was swapped & not the oil pan.

nope, they all had the hole, even the 2wd models I believe

nope everyone of them have a hole. i doesnt matter if it the 5.3, 4.2, 2wd or 4wd
