Default Help locating NP 246 magnet

I'm rebuilding my NP 246 transfer case because of a failed rear output shaft bearing. During the tare down I dropped the magnet and it shattered. Looking online I am having zero luck finding a replacement. Anyone know where I can buy one? Thanks for any help.

You really don't need a specific magnet. I would look online for any magnet. I like neodymium iron boron magnets as they are much stronger. Just don't get one too big as it can be too strong. If you have your heart set on the stock magnet, just go to a local trans shop.

The stock magnet fits into a specific spot on the case. Since the case isn't magnetic it needs to be a certain size to stay in its spot. I'm having little luck finding a magnet that is close to the stock size. My other option is to epoxy a magnet in place and hope it stays. Either way I'm going to get a magnetic drain plug also so I should be ok.

If you want it to match exactly then, it looks like the part number is #12471607. I would think the dealer should have one if you need it soon, if not...

Thank you! I assume you work for GM? I looked and looked online and couldn't locate a part number. We only do Hondas and Acuras at work so I had no GM part look up software. Thanks for the help!

No problem. Glad I could help. No I don't work for GM, just some searching around. Good luck.

Just for future knowledge, that is the same magnet as in most 4L series and many other transmission pans. Some had the flat square magnets, but the replacement is that round one because they work much better.

Just in case anyone is looking for this in the future, the part number listed above worked perfect for the transfer case.
