Default Got some beef for my rear!

ha.

I am tired of seeing this every time I walk to my truck even after replacing the pinion seal (which I thought was the problem),

So I got this,

Thing is beefy. 3/8" flange with 1/4" cover and weighs about 15 pounds. The stock cover is what, 1/8" stamped aluminum and weighs 2 pounds?

now to get it painted. I hope this fixes that damn leak.

And before anyone says I put the stock cover on wrong. I noticed the paper gasket was leaking when I first installed it so I took that one off and put some black rtv around it and put the cover back on....still leaked, so I took it off again and put a 1/4" thick layer of rtv all the way around making sure it was smooth and uniform...and it still leaks...

Is that the high temp RTV? The one on mine is orange RTV and seals perfect. Also, did you confirm that the sealing surface is perfectly flat?

Yep, the black is the oil resistant and hi-temp. mating surface on the housing is perfect.

Looks like the leak is originating on top of the housing. Have the vent tube on it?

Yep. I was using 3/8" which is actually too big. Just replaced it with 5/16" which is the correct size at the same time I replaced the pinion seal.

Grey rtv is the only silicone I have used to seal rear covers...no gasket
