Default A good TH400 TC

I am in need of a good th400 torque converter is that not going to blow up on me. I bought my first one off ebay for 150, and i got what i paid for it was a 22-2800 stall that actually stalled at 4800.. and still slipped. The second one I actually got with the transmission when i bought the truck with no motor. it was a 3600 nitrous stall that stalled at 3200 on a foot break. I really liked that converter and i have no idea who made it but I screwed it up when i did a burn out on a cold tranny.

MY issue is when I lay into it and slap second or third it doesnt shift right away, Its like it goes into neutral. and I am really hoping that its the converter and not the tranny.

It was built for 1000 HP and has a manual valve body. My motor makes 462 at the crank and 465 FT. Lbs.

I am trying to keep it as cheap as possible but I want something that is going to hold up.
Any suggestions?

That's definitely a transmission issue. First thing is to check and make sure that the linkage is EXACTLY correct on the transmission (the cable should be able to freely go into/out of the linkage on the trans in each gear). If thats not it, the trans has to come out.

The linkage is fine. Its a B&M slap shifter, and all the linkage works properly on the outside of the transmission. I can lay into it, shift it and it acts like it goes to neutral, then if i let out it will shift. I pulled the motor and trans already, i had some other things with the motor i wanted to address, so everything is already out.

I would have to agree that it sounds like a trans issue. As for a converter if you buy a cheap one that is what you get. A good converter will cost over $800.

Not for a TH400 Vince...
A nice TH400 billet cover converter shouldn't cost more than $600 IMO, and the billet cover isn't even necessary on many combos because of the lack of lockup.

I have had good luck with ATI and Coan converters behind high hp big blocks with TH400s
it sounds like a tranny issue to me
