Gonna get my feet wet finally

I am planning on getting started with my truck finally. I have my deposit in for a tune by Blackbear. I was thinking about installing a vette servo and possibly a shift kit before the tune. It's a reg cab 4wd 5.3 4l60. What do you guys think? Is it a good idea? I will swap to the 80e when the time comes. Is the shift kit necessary with just a tune? And if anyone has tuned a fully stock truck could you give me an idea of what to expect?

You will see gains from tuning a bone stock truck. To beef up the trans, 40k Tru Cool trans cooler ($120, first and foremost), then vette ($16) and Sonnax superhold billet servo ($80), then HD2 shift kit with no washers ($120), hardened transgo separator plate ($30) and aluminum accumulator pistons ($6). That will be about as built as you can get a 60E before tearing into it. On a budget, just get the trans cooler and vette servo.

Yeah I'll be there and one of my buddies. After looking at one of the how to threads that servo looks like a piece of cake..... I was gonna see if you did yours yet. Are you going to the grudge race Saturday in Sanger?

Happy to help
If you do the servo(s) yourself, make doubly sure the snap ring is seated all the way around. If it isn't, it's going to pop off the first time it shifts and either strand you or break a piece of the transmission case off (I've seen it more than once). That shouldn't scare you away, it isn't a hard swap, but just triple check yourself and feel all the way around the lip with your finger to make sure the snap ring is in the groove.

I know nothing about it, but there is a gm fullsize meet this saturday in Lewisville, I will be there. I haven't done mine yet. Suppose to do it the last two days. My help just had a baby so I'm playing it by ear. Worst case you can come out Friday and we can do both!
