Default Going to the Trans Shop

What are the correct questions to be asking a trans builder when you want a High performance transmission, using the 4L60E (4X4)?

Is it normal for a trans shop just to throw a price at you, or do they generally tell you what parts you will need?

Any specific questions I should ask as to not get screwed?

I've visited a few trans shops and had mixed responses to my rebuild request.
I call, and ask for a built 4L60E or 4L60 to 65E conversion, and generally get a cost of around $1500-1600. Some trans shops won't do anything but stock. Some have said "You dont need all that HD crap the way I build them".
Most of them won't give details. Almost ALL of them said that the first thing to go will be the B&M shift kit as shift kits are not friendly in these trans.

Based on my reading here, and a few resources elsewhere, I have a general idea of what parts I want....but getting someone thats proficient LOCALLY to put them in is what I need to try and weed out.

I wish I could do a 4L80E, but I can't even find a core trans under 100K miles for any less than $1000.

I want to be able to walk into a place, and ask the right questions, and get the right answers.

Any advice appreciated.

Thanks for the info guys. I looked at their website, and it looks like they have some solid options. Although, I wanted something local, so when something breaks or has issues, I can drive it back and ask them about it.

I would imagine their 6 month warranty is because they think their transmissions would be for performance/racing use? I really would like a better warranty than 6 months, which most of the local places are giving 1 yr or 3/36K warranty with their work.

Not that FLT is bad - just that I'm hoping for some advice to walk into a local shop and ask the right questions, get something local, and a warranty.

I'm not out to beat the crap out of this trans, just want something strong to play on the street, but also durable to pull my car behind me.

I'll have to call FLT on Monday and see if they offer a better warranty or a better fit for what I need.

If something breaks, odds are it aint goin to be driveable..
look at some of the trucks that are running a FLT.. problems are far and few inbetween.
I went with a 80E cause i got sick of 60E problems...
