Better 1st gear and a steeper OD than the 4l80, and the strength of the 4l80.

I see the usage.

with that gear spread, there would be less need for alot of stall in the converter as well as better fuel milage due to the extra overdrive.

As far as transmissions go I'm probably pickier than most. Having driven a fully built 4L60-E with a 2900RPM converter and a fully-built 4L80-E with stock 13" 1800RPM converter, both with Gear Vendors Overdrives, I can assure everyone that the higher-stall-speed torque converters are no substitue for close gear ratios in a transmission. The closer ratios are so much more drivable. I've never been happy with the ratio range, even in the 60, which is why I bought the GV years ago in the first place.

When I compare a 4L80-E with stock converter (what I have now) to my brother's truck with a stock 4L60-E and converter, the 1-2 shift with the 60 feels like it skips a gear it's so bad.

Once you've driven a close-ratio auto you'll be spoiled for life. Go find an Allison to take for a spin, you'll get a glimpse at what that new 6-speed will be offering.

For now I'm very happy with my setup. It could probably use a smaller converter but I love the feel of the stock lockup clutch.

the gear vendors overdrive is a nice unit, but personally i'm not into adding more parasitic drag and weight. close ratio's are nice since it'll keep the engine in it's powerband much longer. running a higher stall takes out some of that terrible split a wide ratio trans will have though. this trans appears to have a terrible split on the 1-2 also and no 1:1 ratio. not impressed with that on either account. it should be beefy though which is a nice thing.

How do we know it'll actually be any stronger than the 4l60E. since its a 6L80, is it loosely based on the 4L80e? If so that would be badass.

The "80" in the designation refers to the torque handling capacity of the trans some how. I can't remember exactly how though.

according to the spec the 6l80e is rated to hold more stock TQ than the current 4l80e and 4l85e.
